Two-part commission for a friend's D&D campaign. I was asked to create an era-accurate portrait of one of the main characters, one looking normal, and one reflecting her vampiric transformation, to be used as a visual within the game.
I started out by sketching her face based on the reference given to me (a screenshot from the character creator in Baldur's Gate III) to make sure she looked right. I ended up changing her face a bit as well to match what my friend had in mind.

Next was designing her outfit and the totem hanging off her waist. During this time I was also going back and forth with my friend and their gamemaster with the different ideas I had, to see what stuck and what other little easter eggs I could add.

After that, I made a full sketch and was ready to start painting. (Full painting timelapse coming soon!)

Later on they also asked me to design a custom frame for the paintings, giving me specific themes, materials and elements to include, as well as providing a helpful sketch (left) as a starting point.

Finally, it was just a matter of painting over the original piece to make the second version, then putting the frame on top of the painting.
I'm not sure exactly the amount of time in hours that I spent working on the commission, but I ended up spending a good few months on it. I enjoyed the process a lot, and I'm really happy with how it turned out!
